Species Globorotalia sphericomiozea Walters 1965

Alternative name:
Globorotalia (Globoconella) sphericomiozea Walters 1965
Discussion / Comments:
Jenkins (1985):
G. sphericomiozea has a small thick walled test with 4 chambers in the final whorl and a low arched aperture and is regarded as the immediate ancestor of G. puncticulata in the New Zealand region. This evolutionary lineage which led to G. inflata has recently been discussed by Scott (1980) and MaImgren & Kennett (1981). In New Zealand it ranges from the Late Miocene into basal Pliocene, and on DSDP Leg 29 Site 284 it is very rare and was not identified over the same interval at Leg 40 Sites 360 and 362 (Jenkins, 1975, 1978c).
