Species Protentella prolixa Lipps 1964

Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test small, almost planispiral, involute, biumbilicate, equatorial periphery strongly lobulate; axial periphery broadly rounded; chambers initially spherical, later becoming ovate to radially elongate, five rapidly enlarging chambers in the final whorl; sutures radial, depressed; surface with regular reticulate pattern of ridges forming circular to subcircular or subhexagonal pore pits. Aperture basal, nearly equatorial, rather high arch, bordered by a distinct thick lip.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
P. prolixa resembles Clavatorella bermudezi but differs in its somewhat smaller size, its more planispiral rather than trochospiral adult test, and its somewhat more thick- ened apertural lip.
Van Eijden & Smit (1991):
Remarks. Although P. prolixa is reportedly restricted to the upper Miocene and the Pliocene, we found specimens indistinguishable from this species in the upper Oligocene of Sites 757 and 758.
