Species Globigerina medizzai Toumarkine & Bolli 1975
Discussion / Comments:
Toumarkine & Luterbacher (1985): The small species (diameter 0.2 to 0.4 mm) is one of the few forms which still persist into the Late Eocene. Other similar but perhaps not closely related forms are Acarinina rugosoa-culeata Subbotina described from the Southern i USSR, Globorotalia aculeata Jenkins from austral areas and Globigerina danvillertsis Howe & Wallace found in the northern hemisphere from America, the Atlantic and Europe. A. rugosoaculeata diners from G. medizzai by its extraumbilical aperture. G. aculeata i and G. danvillensis have more globular chambers and more lobate peripheries. G. medizzai is more regularly and more finely spinose than G. aculeata which has more-pronounced, but scarcer spines. |
