Species Planorotalites australiformis Jenkins 1966

Diagnosis / Definition:
Tjalsma (1977):
P. australiformis was reported from New Zealand to replace P. pseudomenardii in the upper Paleocene and to range well into the lower Eocene. At Site 329 it occurs frequently from the top of Section 3, Core 33 to the top of Core 32.
Discussion / Comments:
Tjalsma (1977):
P. australiformis was reported from New Zealand to replace P. pseudomenardii in the upper Paleocene and to range well into the lower Eocene. At Site 329 it occurs frequently from the top of Section 3, Core 33 to the top of Core 32.
Jenkins (1985):
The small test (holotype 0.26 mm) with 4 chambers in the final whorl distinguishes P. australiformis from other species of the genus. It has been recorded in New Zealand and on DSDP Leg 29 from the Paleocene Globigerina triloculinoides Zone into the Middle Eocene Acarinina primitiva Zone (Jenkins, 1966a, 1975). It also occurs in the equivalent of the Acarinina primitiva Zone in South Australia (Ludbrook & Lindsay, 1969).
Van Eijden & Smit (1991):
Remarks. This species (probably a variant of P. planoconica (Subbotina, 1953)) is conspicuously present in the 125-250-ìm fraction of Sample 121-752A-13X-3, 110-115 cm, of early middle Eocene age.
