Subspecies Pachydiscus (Pachydiscus) jacquoti jacquoti Seunes 1890

Alternative name:
Pachydiscus jacquoti jacquoti Seunes 1890
Diagnosis / Definition:
Cobban & Kennedy (1995):
DESCRIPTION.- USNM 463 108, a phosphatic fragment, has whorl breadth to height ratio of 0.97, reniform whorl section, and broadly rounded flanks and venter. Ornament restricted to distant straight, prorsiradiate ventrolateral and ventral ribs that efface over midventral region. Narrow siphuncular groove present. Suture imperfectly preserved, complex and typical for genus.
Discussion / Comments:
Cobban & Kennedy (1995):
TYPES.- Seunes (1890, plate 3, figures 1-3) figured three specimens and mentioned others, from the Cotentin Peninsula, Manche, France; Pyrknkes-Atlantiques, and northwest of Alcoy, Spain. The original of his plate 3, figure 1 should be designated the lectotype when found (see discussion in Kennedy, 1986b, page 36). MATERIAL.- A single specimen, USNM 463 108. DISCUSSION.- This fragment, with its distinctive whorl section and distant ribs, differs in no significant respects from the juvenile syntypes figured by Seunes (1890) and from topotypes from the Calcaire B Baculites of the Cotentin Peninsula figured by Kennedy (1986b). OCCURRENCE.- Prairie Bluff Chalk at locality 24. Elsewhere the species is restricted to the upper Maastrichtian, with records from the Biscay region of France and Spain; Cotentin Peninsula, Manche, France; Kunrade, The Netherlands; Armenia; and Madagascar. Pachydiscus (P.)jacquoti australis Henderson and McNamara (1 985, p. 76, plate 8, figures 1, 2, 7-10, text-figures 12a, 13b, 15a) is known from Western Australia, and the subspecies chilensis Stinnesbeck (1986, page 2 18, plate 13, figure 8, plate 15, figures 1, 3, text-figure 28a) is known from Quiriquina Island, Chile.
