Cobban & Kennedy (1995): TYPES.- Seunes (1890, plate 3, figures 1-3) figured three specimens and mentioned others, from the Cotentin Peninsula, Manche, France; Pyrknkes-Atlantiques, and northwest of Alcoy, Spain. The original of his plate 3, figure 1 should be designated the lectotype when found (see discussion in Kennedy, 1986b, page 36). MATERIAL.- A single specimen, USNM 463 108. DISCUSSION.- This fragment, with its distinctive whorl section and distant ribs, differs in no significant respects from the juvenile syntypes figured by Seunes (1890) and from topotypes from the Calcaire B Baculites of the Cotentin Peninsula figured by Kennedy (1986b). OCCURRENCE.- Prairie Bluff Chalk at locality 24. Elsewhere the species is restricted to the upper Maastrichtian, with records from the Biscay region of France and Spain; Cotentin Peninsula, Manche, France; Kunrade, The Netherlands; Armenia; and Madagascar. Pachydiscus (P.)jacquoti australis Henderson and McNamara (1 985, p. 76, plate 8, figures 1, 2, 7-10, text-figures 12a, 13b, 15a) is known from Western Australia, and the subspecies chilensis Stinnesbeck (1986, page 2 18, plate 13, figure 8, plate 15, figures 1, 3, text-figure 28a) is known from Quiriquina Island, Chile. |
