Species Neogloboquadrina continuosa Blow 1959



Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test low trochospiral, equatorial periphery lobulate, axial periphery rounded, chambers subspherical to ovate, four in the final whorl, increasing rapidly in size; sutures on spiral and umbilical sides radial, depressed; surface coarsely pitted; umbilicus narrow, deep; aperture interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical, a rather low arch bordered by a distinct rim.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
N. continuosa is distinguished from "Globorotalia" nana by its high-arched aperture with a pronounced apertural rim and a rather more coarsely pitted surface. N. continuosa appears to have developed from "Globorotalia" nana and is ancestral to N. acostaensis. However, Bolli and Saunders (1982) considered N. continuosa as a four chambered variant of Gr. (J.) mayeri.

Single specimens are found above the published (Kennett and Srinivasan, 1983) global last appearance.
Chaisson & Leckie (1993):
Similar species: Neogloboquadrina continuosa is separated from Paragloborotalia nana by its more lobate chambers and a distinctively arched aperture.
