Species Ascoliella nitida Michael 1973

Discussion / Comments:
Boudagher-Fadel et al. (1997):
Remarks: This species has five to six subglobular chambers in the last whorl; a small and deep umbilicus; an intra-extraumbilical aperture; and a surface covered by anastomosing ridges which enclose groups of microperforations in a medium size of favose reticulation. In 1973 Michael described F. pessagnoi from the Late Albian of the very same locality as A. nitida. In the former, each cell of the reticulum is smaller than in other forms of A. nitida, but these species are otherwise identical. Banner and Desai (1988) designated as their holotype for Ascoliella scotiensis the specimen figured by Ascoli (1976) from the Aptian of the Oneida Well 0-25, side wall core at 7605 feet; this specimen is identical to A. nitida. Longoria and Gamper (1977) figured similar specimens to A. nitida, calling them F. hedbergellaeformis, from the Late Albian of the Sierra de Papagayos, northeast of Monterey, Nuevo Le6n State, northeastern Mexico; we regard them as conspecific.
