Species Tinophodella ambitacrena Loeblich & Tappan 1957

Discussion / Comments:
Bolli & Saunders (1985):
Brönnimann's figured paratypes of G. naparimaensis are conspecific with T. ambitacrena and are now considered to he both specifically and generically different from the specimen he chose as the holotype. T. ambitacrena is a small species, usually with 3 chambers in the last whorl and with an irregular bulla covering a considerable percentage of the umbilical side and often extending onto the spiral side. Large numbers, up to 14, of small apertures rim the umbilicus. There can be some confusion with juvenile forms of Globigerinatella insueta but this is a more spherical form which may have more than one bulla and, even in young forms, usually shows some characteristic, circular areal apertures.
